Two of our players came up against each other at the weekend during a full round of EFL fixtures and there was also game time abroad for a couple of our loan players.
Starting in Sky Bet League One, there was a clash between two sides fighting to stay in the division as Jaakko Oksanen’s AFC Wimbledon came up against Dom Thompson’s Swindon Town. Both players began the game on the bench in a match where The Dons kept up their fine form with a 4-1 win. Joe Pigott grabbed two goals whilst Will Nightingale and Ayoub Assal also found the net for Wimbledon on home soil. Jaakko entered the field on 65 minutes to help close out the win, whilst Dom was a substitute at half-time for Town. Wimbledon are now 19th in the table, five points clear of the drop zone with a game in hand having picked up three consecutive wins. As for Swindon, they are now bottom of the table with 37 points and sit seven points from safety.
There was a return to winning ways for Doncaster Rovers as Ellery Balcombe gained more minutes for the side. They picked up a 2-0 victory away at Shrewsbury Town with goals from Fejiri Okenbirhie and Taylor Richards- who added the second on 80 minutes. The side are now 10th in the league table.
In Sky Bet League Two Arthur Read wasn’t involved for Stevenage in their 1-0 defeat at home to Mansfield Town. Ryan Sweeney netted the only goal of the game when he poked home for Town following a goalmouth scramble.
Abroad there was another win of Patrik Gunnarsson’s Silkeborg as they claimed a 3-0 away victory at HB Køge. Nicolai Vallys netted on the hour mark before Magnus Mattsson and Nicklas Røjkjær scored late on to seal the win. Another 90 minutes for Patrik sees the side second in the First Division, four points ahead of Esbjerg. They face top spot Viborg on Friday as they continue their hunt for promotion.
Halil Dervişoğlu started and played the first 68 minutes for Galatasaray as they beat Göztepe S.K. 3-1 away from home. They had to come from behind to win and all three of the goals came from Muhammed Kerem Aktürkoğlu. The side are now third, six points off top place Beşiktaş.
Also in Turkey, Kasımpaşa S.K. drew their third consecutive game as their match finished 2-2 at Gaziantep. Julian Jeanvier is still missing for the side through injury.
In Poland, Joel Valencia missed Legia Warsaw’s 0-0 draw with KS Cracovia, though the side are still top of the Ekstraklasa by six points.
