Starting in League One, there was Good Friday action for Dom Thompson and Jaakko Oksanen but neither were able to help their sides to victories as Swindon were beaten at home by Blackpool whilst AFC Wimbledon fell to a narrow defeat in Devon against Plymouth Argyle.
At The County Ground Town were beaten 2-0 by Blackpool and Dom played 71 minutes with Ellis Simms and Jerry Yates grabbing the goals on the day. They will be looking to bounce back today (Monday) when they take on Burton Albion away from home. Jaakko’s Dons were beaten 1-0 at Home Park as Sam Woods found the winner. They will now welcome Fleetwood Town today looking to climb away from danger.
Also in League One there was defeat for Doncaster Rovers at home to Charlton Athletic as Ellery Balcombe was an unused substitute. They are also in action today away from home at Bristol Rovers.
In League Two Arthur Read continues to play a role in Stevenage’s fine run of form as they collected another three points on Good Friday away at Oldham Athletic. The midfielder played 92 minutes in a match which was won shortly before the half hour mark by Scott Cuthbert. They are now 13th in the table and host Bradford City today.
Grimsby Town were denied a much needed win on Good Friday when Ibou Touray struck on 88 minutes for Salford City to cancel out Harry Clifton’s early opener. Joe Adams wasn’t involved for The Mariners and the side will now take on Cheltenham Town today still in the hunt for points going into the closing stages of the campaign.
On foreign soil, Halil Dervişoğlu played the second half for Galatasaray in their 3-0 defeat against Hatayspor on Saturday. The goals game from Mame Biram Diouf and Ruben Ribeiro which means the Turkish giants are second in the Turkish Super Lig, three points behind Beşiktaş who sit top by three points. Galatasaray are back in action on Saturday against Fatih Karagümrük.
In the same league there was a win for Kasımpaşa S.K. against Beşiktaş on Sunday as Aytac Kara grabbed the game’s only goal. Julian Jeanvier wasn’t involved due to a long term injury and the side currently sit 14th in the table ahead of their match with Denizlispor on Thursday.
As for Patrik Gunnarsson, he is likely to feature for Silkeborg when they take on Helsingør in their first Play-Off match in the Danish First Division today. Patrik has recently been on international duty with Iceland’s Under-21s in the Under-21 European Championships.
There was no game time for Joel Valencia this weekend but Legia Warsaw were in action as they stretched their lead at the top of the Ekstraklasa to 10 points with a 4-2 win over Pogoń Szczecin. All four of Legia’s goals came in the first 29 minutes of the game as they put themselves into a commanding position to pick up another three points. They are next in action on Sunday against Lech Poznan.
