There was game time for some of our players in midweek with one also tasting action abroad.
In Sky Bet League One, Swindon Town kept their slim hopes of survival alive with a 3-1 win over Portsmouth at The County Ground. Brett Pitman netted twice before Ronan Curtis gave Pompey hope when he scored on 82 minutes, but Tyler Smith confirmed the points for the home side when he struck in stoppage time. Dom Thompson got another 90 minutes under his belt in the victory.
In the same division there was game time for Ellery Balcombe as his Doncaster Rovers side travelled to Accrington Stanley. The game saw Rovers slip to a 2-1 defeat after they conceded two penalties. Dion Charles netted both, with the second strike coming in the 91st minute to condemn Rovers to defeat late on.
As for AFC Wimbledon, their impressive run continued as they made it four wins in a row. In their path stood play-off chasing Oxford United but The Dons were able to come from behind to claim a 2-1 win. James Henry was sent off for The U’s after handling on the line on 62 minutes which left Joe Pigott with the chance to level things after Josh Ruffels had put United ahead 10 minutes before. Just a couple of minutes after levelling, The Dons found the winner when Alex Woodyard slammed home to confirm all three points. Jaakko Oksanen was an unused substitute on the day.
In SkyBet League Two, Arthur Read wasn’t involved in Stevenage’s 1-0 defeat at home to promotion-chasing Cheltenham Town. George Lloyd grabbed the game’s only goal to seal the win for Town, leaving Stevenage 16th in the league table.
In Turkey, Halil Dervişoğlu played the second half for Galatasaray in their 1-1 home draw with Trabzonspor. The away side actually went ahead midway through the second period and it took until the 96th minute for Galatasaray to draw level when Emre Akbaba found the net. The side are third in the Turkish Super Lig. In the same country, Kasımpaşa S.K. play today against Istanbul Basaksehir. Julian Jeanvier has been out with a long term injury for the Turkish side.
