There was some game time in midweek with three of our loan players earning minutes for their clubs in the EFL.
Jaakko Oksanen played 27 minutes as a second half substitute as AFC Wimbledon collected back-to-back wins with a 3-0 victory over Ipswich Town to pull themselves further away from danger. Will Nightingale found the net on 21 minutes before Jack Rudoni headed home just a few minutes later. Town had Josh Harrop sent off on 28 minutes which damaged the away side’s hopes of getting back into the game. Ryan Longman then added a third on 86 minutes as the side now sit 19th and are two points clear of the drop zone with a game in hand on the teams immediately below them.
In the same division there was defeat for Dom Thompson’s Swindon Town as they lost 2-1 away at Rochdale. Dom was a second half substitute playing the final 22 minutes in a game were Rochdale went ahead through Jimmy Keohane just 11 minutes in. Conor Grant then made it harder for Swindon to get back into the game as he found the net to make it 2-0. Town did pull a goal back in the 90th minute but it was ultimately too late.
As for Ellery Balcombe, he gained another 90 minutes for Doncaster Rovers, though it was another difficult match for the side as they fell to their fifth straight defeat. Burton Albion travelled to the Keepmoat Stadium and took away a 3-0 win with goals from Lucas Akins, Tom Hamer and Hayden Carter. Rovers are now 12th in the League One table.
There was no midweek game for Stevenage and Arthur Read in Sky Bet League Two and they will have their attentions on a home match with Mansfield Town this weekend.
On foreign soil there hasn’t been any recent action but there could be minutes in the coming days. Patrik Gunnarsson’s Silkeborg will take on HB Køge on Saturday, whilst in Turkey Galatasaray will look to get back to winning ways when they take on Göztepe S.K. and Halil Dervişoğlu will aim for more minutes. Julian Jeanvier’s Kasımpaşa S.K. are away at Gaziantep FK on Sunday and Joel Valencia’s Legia Warsaw will welcome KS Cracovia at the weekend.
