The London Senior Cup’s 2019/20 winners will officially be crowned this evening, almost one year since the beginning of the tournament as Brentford B take on Hendon FC at The Powerday Stadium in a 7.45pm kick-off.
Neil MacFarlane’s side began their route to the final on 25 September 2019 away from home at Beckenham Town, and they have a chance to win silverware if they can overcome Hendon tonight.
Following the 6-0 win over Beckenham, a 7-1 win over Harrow Borough followed before a penalty shootout win over AFC Wimbledon in the Quarter-Finals. With the season curtailed from March 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the young Bees had to wait until August to get back to action and it was decided that a winner would still be decided from the competition with all parties keen to continue.
That meant a Semi-Final with Erith Town would go ahead, in what was the final ever fixture at Griffin Park, where Neil MacFarlane’s side with some new faces following some summer recruitment, confirmed a spot in the Final with a 6-3 win.
Discussing the Final and the opportunity to win some silverware following the recent win over Crystal Palace, Brentford B Head Coach Neil MacFarlane said: “I think the players were playing for a Cup Final because they were certainly at it. With our fixture programme it’s a totally different scenario and experience that we will approach properly. We want to win the final.”
Brentford B attacker Joe Adams also says the side are excited at the prospect of playing in a Final. He explained: “We’ve carried it on from last season so it’s good to get some competitive games earlier in the new campaign, against Erith we played really well and we’re all looking forward to it.
“We’ve scored lots of goals in this tournament and it would be really good to win some silverware. Of course, for the boys who aren’t with us now (having left the club) it would be something they can take away from the competition as well.”
Hendon FC is owned by the Hendon Football Club Supporters Trust and is now based at Silver Jubilee Park in Kingsbury. Lee Allinson’s side compete in the Southern League Premier Division and are set to get their League campaign up and running this Saturday when they travel to Salisbury. The side have been in pre-season action since the beginning of August where they’ve picked up wins over the likes of Bracknell Town, Arlesey Town, Berkhamsted, and of course, Wingate & Finchley in their Semi-Final tie.
The side picked up a 3-1 win in extra-time to seal themselves a spot in the Final, and their most recent match was a 2-1 win over Ware.
Hendon’s campaign in this competition began with a penalty shootout win over Cockfosters before they beat Leyton Orient 1-0 at home to set up a Third-Round tie with Balham. On their travels they battled to a 2-0 win to set up that Semi-Final with Wingate.
Hanwell Town’s Powerday Stadium will play host to this fixture and supporters are allowed entry with the number of people capped in order to comply with Covid-19 safety guidelines. Tickets for this match have already been sold therefore the only way to tune in is to watch online via the Club’s YouTube channel, as well as follow on social media with a full report to be published after the game.
