Bryan Mbeumo came off the bench to earn his sixth cap for France's Under-21s last night.
Les Espoirs were in Azerbaijan for their latest Under-21 European Championship Group Two qualifier. Odsonne Edouard gave France a 25th minute lead which they held until Bryan was introduced with 20 minutes to play.
Amine Gouiri then netted a fine individual second with seven minutes to play. Tural Bayramov pulled one back for the hosts in injury time but France held on to join Switzerland at the top of the group on 15 points, albeit having played a game more.
Bryan will now return to West London ahead of Saturday's Sky Bet Championship opener at Birmingham City.
