Brentford FC have appointed Bernardo Cueva to the newly created role of Tactical Statistician. The Club announced earlier this summer plans to recruit someone to work in this area for the start of the 2020/21 season. After a recruitment process, Bernardo – a Mexican national formerly employed as Strategic Analysis Manager at Club Deportivo Guadalajara S.A. de C.V., who are often simply known as Guadalajara or Chivas – was appointed to the role. Brentford FC have been looking for someone to generate new insights from data and work with our Co-Directors of Football Phil Giles and Rasmus Ankersen, as well as alongside our coaching staff.

Phil Giles said: “On behalf of everyone at Brentford I’d like to welcome Bernardo to the Club. As a former statistician myself I’m excited to see what Bernardo can bring to the Club. We look forward to working with him and wish him well in his new role in a new country.”

Bernardo played for the Academy at Chivas, as well as others in his home country, but left the game to work in other areas. He returned to Chivas in September 2017 and spent just under three years with 12-time Mexican champions. Bernardo’s work at Chivas – which included developing relationships and learning from some of the biggest clubs in Europe – came at a time when they won the CONCACAF Champions League and featured in the FIFA Club World Cup.
