With football continuing over the international break, Karleigh Osborne’s side were beaten 4-2 by Walton Casuals but then followed up with a 2-1 win over Dulwich Hamlet this weekend. The win saw them jump to second in the Greater London WFL Premier Division table with four games played.

From the first whistle Brentford played their passing attacking game, creating good chances and putting Dulwich under pressure. At the same time the visitors were trying to press and restrict the space, but a strong defensive set up and some great forward through passes from midfield gave the home team the upper hand.

Both of Brentford's goals came in the final six minutes of the first half. The first started as a throw-in from Chloe Webb to Kaitlyn Spencer-Dempsey, who controlled it but let it run for Rebekah Wiltshire. The winger clipped a ball between the defenders in the centre of the pitch and Molly O'Reilly was there to go one-on-one with the keeper. Calmly, she struck it low into the bottom corner to open the scoring.

The second goal came from a moment of brilliance a few minutes later, Nadia Peters clipping an incredible pass behind the back four to Spencer-Dempsey. KSD took it in her stride and was then brought down by a reckless challenge from the onrushing keeper. The striker got up to take the spot-kick herself, sending it to the left of the keeper and into the net. That's an impressive five goals in four games for the 17-year-old.

The second half was much the same with the Bees controlling the play and Emily Boycott in goal rarely troubled. The game swung more in favour of the visitors as it reached the closing stages, and they pushed forward with more attacking threat.

They were given hope as a misplaced pass from a Bees player was pounced on by a Dulwich attacker, who raced forward and smashed her shot into the net and setting up a nervous final few minutes. A spectacular save by Boycott was followed by a dramatic goalmouth scramble in the dying seconds, but the final whistle sounded to the relief of the home supporters at Bedfont.

The ladies gave a good overall performance, which was almost spoiled by a couple of minor mistakes under pressure almost gifting Hamlet a way back into the game. No doubt the coaching staff will go through some things before next weekend’s cup fixture. The First Team travel to Hounslow Women Reserves on Sunday 18 October for a 2pm kick-off in Round One of the Middlesex FA Capital Women’s Cup. The current holders, following last season’s suspension of the tournament, are Ashford Town (Mx).

Second place in the table, taking nine points from four games, is an impressive start from the side determined to win the division title this season. They’ve also notched a plus five goal difference in the last few weeks.

The whole team want to pass on a big thank you to those Bees fans who are getting their football fix by watching the Brentford Women’s teams on Sunday afternoons. While the First Team travel away, the Development Team are on home soil at Bedfont Sports next Sunday. Entry is free and all are welcome for a 2pm kick-off.
