Match Preview: Brentford B v Aldershot Town

Young Bees to take on National League side on Friday

29 October 2020

Brentford B take on Aldershot on Friday afternoon at Jersey Road in a behind closed doors friendly with the match set to kick-off at 2pm.

The young Bees were last in action on 20 October when they travelled to Hendon FC in the Second Round of the London Senior Cup and picked up an impressice victory.

The side will come into the game with some confidence following that 6-2 win, and Neil MacFarlane could well call upon Valgeir Valgeirsson once again after he netted twice on his Brentford B debut last time out. Wraynel Hercules could make his return from injury having stepped up his recovery in recent weeks so there’ll be competition for places against the National League side.

Brentford B actually came up against Aldershot earlier this month in a friendly at The EBB Stadium, but with their league fixture with Notts County postponed recently following some positive Covid-19 results at Meadow Lane, Aldershot will now travel to take on the young Bees once again.

When the sides last met, it was Aldershot who came out on top when they claimed a 3-2 win despite a spirited second half display from the young Bees. Mo Bettamer and Alfy Whittingham got the goals for Town, whilst a Brentford Trialist and Aaron Pressley scored for Brentford B, but they were unable to find that all-important third to draw the game.

Recent results for Aldershot have seen them exit The Emirates FA Cup to Woking after they had drawn 2-2 away from home against Eastleigh. One of their season highlights so far was their 5-0 away win at Dover Athletic on 13 October.

Aldershot are managed by Danny Searle, who joined the Shots in May 2019 after spending the second half of the 2018/19 season in charge of Braintree Town. The 41-year old holds a UEFA Pro Licence and has worked within the youth setups at Chelsea, Charlton Athletic, Southend United and West Ham United. He joined Braintree in 2018 as Assistant Manager to Hakan Heyrettin and took over as First Team Manager when Heyrettin joined Maidstone in January 2019.

The match will not be live streamed on Friday, however there will be live updates across social media as well as a full report, and you will be able to hear from Neil MacFarlane and his squad after the game.
