Match Preview: Brentford vs Norwich City

All the info ahead of tonight's visit from The Canaries

27 October 2020

Our next assignment in the Sky Bet Championship comes tonight as we welcome Norwich City to our new home. The Canaries have won their last three and head to TW8 inside the early season Play-Off spots. Below you will find all the information and build-up to the big game.

THE OPPOSITION

Any fears Norwich City fans had that last season's difficult Premier League campaign would spill over into this term appear to be receding as Daniel Farke's men head to TW8 fifth in the Championship after seven games.

The Canaries won just five times in the top flight last campaign and were a fixture in the bottom three from October onwards. Farke's men lost their last ten league games, nine of those defeats coming after the restart, finishing 13-points adrift at the bottom of the table.

This season's early signs weren't all that reassuring as The Canaries won just one of their first five games in all competitions. However, since returning from the October international break, Farke's men have reeled off consecutive wins over Rotherham United, Birmingham City, and Wycombe Wanderers.

A side that keeps going to the end, their winners in those last three games have come in the 90th, 87th, and 90th minute.

Teemu Pukki and Mario Vrancic are City's top scorers with two goals each but it is at the other end Norwich have impressed so far, conceding just six times in their opening seven matches.

The playing squad saw plenty of upheaval this summer. Ben Godfrey (Everton) and Jamal Lewis (Newcastle United) were sold to balance the books with Kieran Dowell (Everton) and Jordan Hugill (West Ham United) among eight players brought in permanently. Oliver Skipp (Tottenham Hotspur), Xavi Quintillà (Villarreal), and Ben Gibson (Burnley) also joined on loan.

TEAM NEWS

There will be no Christian Norgaard, Mads Roerslev (both ankle), Shandon Baptiste, or Pontus Jansson (hamstring) tonight but Emiliano Marcondes is fit to return after missing Saturday's trip to Stoke City.

Todd Cantwell (hip) is a doubt for The Canaries while Josh Martin, Christoph Zimmermann, Sam Byram, Kieran Dowell and Onel Hernandez all remain sidelined. Adam Idah is suspended but Marco Stiepermann could return after missing the last two.

THE MANAGER

Daniel Farke took over at Carrow Road in the summer of 2017 after two years as Head Coach of Borussia Dortmund II. Farke's playing career was dominated by three spells with SV Lippstadt 08, the club with whom he started his managerial career in 2009.

The 41-year-old spent six years with SV, earning back-to-back promotions from the Westfalenliga to the Regionalliga West, the fourth tier of German football. In 2015, Farke took over at Borussia II, a position he held until he headed to East Anglia just over three years ago. He followed up a 14th-placed finish during his first season with the 2018/19 Championship crown, his third promotion in seven years.
