The match takes place between the winners of last season’s Ekstraklasa League competition and the winners of The Polish Cup. Legia won the Ekstraklasa for the 2019/20 campaign by seven points as they claimed their 14th title. Tomorrow’s opponents, Cracovia, lifted the Polish Cup in July this year with an extra-time victory over Lechia Gdańsk as they claimed a 3-2 win. On their way to the final, Cracovia actually beat Legia 3-0 in early July in the Semi-Final of last season’s competition.
Legia will be looking to bounce back from their elimination in the Europa League by FC Qarabag on 1 October as they aim to kick start their season with another title, which Joel could well be a key part of having featured in recent weeks for the Polish side.
Jan Zamburek made his debut for Shrewsbury Town as they hosted Bolton Wanderers in the EFL Trophy, and it was a successful night for the youngster as the side claimed a 2-1 win to progress to the next round of the competition. After signing on loan for Town on Monday, Jan was thrown straight into the starting XI on Tuesday evening and he played 90 minutes with a promising first outing in Shropshire. The Shrewsbury goals came from Ryan Barnett and Jason Cummings.
Luka Racic was not involved for Northampton Town on Tuesday evening as The Cobblers beat Southampton’s B side 5-0 at the PTS Academy Stadium in the EFL Trophy. The goals came from Joseph Mills, Mark Marshall, Caleb Chukwuemeka as well as a brace from Benny Ashley-Seal. Northampton will now set their sights on their home fixture with Peterborough United and Luka will be pushing to be back involved as the side aim to return to winning ways in Sky Bet League One.
The Breyer Group Stadium played host to another EFL Trophy fixture as Jaakko Oksanen’s AFC Wimbledon were beaten 2-0 away from home. Jaakko was an unused substitute on the night with the Orient goals coming from Lee Angol and Conor Wilkinson. Wimbledon will now dust themselves down to return to League One action when they travel to Swindon Town at The County Ground this Saturday.
There was also EFL Trophy action for Arthur Read’s Stevenage as they hosted MK Dons at the Lamex Stadium. Arthur started the match from the bench and came on to play the final 23 minutes, but he was unable to prevent the side from falling to a 3-2 loss. With The Dons going ahead twice and Alex Revell’s side battling back on two occasions to make it 2-2, the game was won by a Jay Bird strike.
The Second Round of the DBU Pokalen saw Patrik Gunnarsson’s Viborg FF exit the competition after extra-time as Hedensted secured a 3-1 win with the score 1-1 after 90 minutes. Patrik was not involved in the fixture as he's on international duty with Iceland's Under-21s.
Julian Jeanvier, currently on loan with Kasımpaşa S.K in Turkey, is on international duty with Guinea as they take on Cape Verde and Gambia.
