Josh signs on until 2024

Midfield player Josh Dasilva extends Brentford FC contract

6 October 2020

Brentford’s England Under-21 international midfield player Josh Dasilva has committed his future to the Club by signing a new long-term contract. Josh, 21, signed the new deal on Sunday, 4 October, before linking up with England’s Under-21 squad. He is at the start of his third season with The Bees and his new contract will now run until the summer of 2024.

Josh joined Brentford in August 2018 after turning down a contract with Arsenal to move to West London. He broke in to the Brentford team towards the end of his first season with the Club and established himself last season, when he played 47 games in all competitions, 36 of them from the start, and scored ten goals. In just over two years with The Bees Josh has played 75 games and scored 13 goals.

Thomas Frank, Brentford FC Head Coach, said: “This is fantastic news for Brentford FC and a top example of how we work. We signed a top talent and our staff have worked together with Josh over the past few years and he is now a very influential player in the Sky Bet Championship. He has grown over the past two years and has been a very big part of the team for the past year.

“We all know Josh’s skill set on the ball, but he has developed off the ball. His running and his pressing are getting better and better and he is taking responsibility defensively. He is magnificent on the ball; he can dictate a game and he scores goals. I expect there is even more to come from him.”

Josh ended an 11-year association with Arsenal when he joined Brentford. He had been with their academy since he was eight and progressed through the youth ranks to make Carabao Cup appearances. He was given his Brentford debut by Thomas Frank in November 2018 after recovering from injury and scored his first goal for The Bees at the end of the 2018/19 season at Millwall. He wrote his name in to the Brentford history books last month by scoring the first league goal for The Bees at their new stadium, in a 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town.

Josh has also just broken in to the England Under-21 squad, having been part of the national team at younger age groups. He made his Under-19 debut as part of the squad that won the UEFA European Under-19 Championships in the summer of 2017 and played three games in the tournament, one of which was the final. Josh represented England Under-20 before he joined The Bees and made his Under-21 debut last month. He has played 13 games for his country overall.
