Saman Ghoddos played the final 15 minutes in Tashkent on Thursday as Iran registered a 2-1 victory over Uzbekistan.
The 27-year-old, who joined The Bees last month on loan from Amiens SC, came off the bench at the Pakhtakor Markaziy Stadium to earn his 22nd Iranian cap. All the goals came in a nine-minute spell around half-time. Sardar Azmoun smashed home from long-range on the stroke of the interval before Mehdi Taremi’s 51st minute penalty. Eldor Shomurodov pulled a goal back for the hosts two minutes later but that proved to be the end of the scoring.
The next game for Saman and Team Melli comes on Tuesday against Mali in Antalya, Turkey.
Pontus Jansson was an unused substitute as Sweden warmed up for this week's Nations League fixtures with a 2-1 win over Russia at the VEB Arena, Moscow. Alexander Isak headed the Swedes' in-front midway through the first half with Mattias Johansson doubling the advantage 18 minutes from time. Aleksandr Sobolev headed home a stoppage-time consolation for the home side, but Sweden held on to record the victory.
Pontus and his teammates return to Nations League A3 action on Sunday with a game against Croatia in Zagreb.
Six further Bees could be in action today. Said Benrahma and Tariqe Fosu are with Algeria and Ghana ahead of friendlies against Nigeria and Mali. In Under-21 European Championship Qualifying, Mads Bech Sorensen and Denmark face Malta, Marcus Forss’ Finland travel to Northern Ireland, Patrik Gunnarsson’s Iceland host Italy, with Joe Adams and Wales in Belgium.
