Tariqe Fosu scores in big Ghana victory

Winger nets maiden international goal against Qatar

13 October 2020

Tariqe Fosu netted his first international goal last night as Ghana put five past Qatar at the Titanic Stadium in Antalya.

The Bees' winger was earning a second cap for his nation following his debut against Mali on Friday. It was Tariqe's close-range finish after 22 minutes which started the scoring, the 24-year-old sliding in at the back post to turn home.

The 2022 World Cup hosts levelled a minute before the interview but the Black Stars took full control after the break. Andre Ayew and Samuel Owusu struck in a five minute period just past the hour before another pair of quickfire goals from Ayew and Caleb Ekuban late on completed a fine evening's work on the Mediterranean coast.

The victory sets Ghana up nicely for next month's double-header against Sudan in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.

There's a full on day of international action ahead for our players today. Said Benrahma, Saman Ghoddos, and Julian Jeanvier all face friendly action for Algeria, Iran, and Guinea respectively.

At Under-21 level, Mads Bech Sorensen goes up against Marcus Forss and Jaakko Oksanen in European Championship Qualifying as Denmark host Finland. Elsewhere, Josh Dasilva and Halil Dervişoğlu will meet at Molineux tonight as England host Turkey while Patrik Gunnarsson and Iceland head to Luxembourg.

There's also friendly action for Paris Maghoma and Joe Adams and England and Wales' Under-20s meet at St George's Park.
