Josh Dasilva and Ellery Balcombe have been called up by England’s Under-21s for European Championship Qualifiers against Andorra and Turkey.
Aidy Boothroyd’s Young Lions can book their spot in next summer’s finals with four points from their upcoming games. First up, is a trip to the Estadi Nacional to take on Group C’s bottom side Andorra on Wednesday, 7 October, kick-off 2pm. They then return to home soil to take on Halil Dervisoglu and Turkey at Molineux on Tuesday, 13 October, kick-off 7.30pm.
England have been perfect so far, registering six wins from six, and look in pole position to confirm passage through to the finals in Hungary and Slovenia.
Their most recent victory, a 2-1 success over closest challengers Austria, saw Josh earn his maiden cap at Under-21 level, to add to 12 at Under-19 and Under-20 level. The 21-year-old, who wrote his name in the history books last month with the first league goal at our new home, came off the bench for the final 23 minutes at the Keine Sorgen Arena.
Ellery, a Toulon Tournament winner in 2017, returns to the England Under-21 set-up for the first time since suffering a back injury while on loan with Viborg FF late last year. The 20-year-old goalkeeper was named on the bench for September’s Carabao Cup victory over Wycombe Wanderers and our Sky Bet Championship opener against Birmingham City. A regular in age group internationals, Ellery has 18 caps for England from Under-18 to Under-20 level.
