Positive start for Women’s Teams paused by lockdown

The latest round-up for Brentford Women’s FC

13 November 2020

October was another positive month for the Brentford Women’s Teams with more victories in league and cup.

Heading into this run of fixtures, Karleigh Osborne’s side had won three of their opening four in the Greater London Women’s Football League Premier Division. First up was a Middlesex County Cup tie against Hounslow Women Reserves which resulted in a 5-2 win; Axelle Courlander, Caitlin Furness-Roe, Nadia Peters, Kaitlyn Spencer-Dempsey, and Sophie Troth getting the goals.

Back in League action the following Sunday, The Bees suffered just their second defeat of the campaign with a 3-1 loss away at Clapton Community WFC. Osborne’s side fell behind early but levelled through Rebekah Wiltshire (pictured above). However, the hosts struck either side of the break to take the three points.

The Bees last action ahead of the enforced break saw a 6-0 league win over Hampton and Richmond Borough at Bedfont Sports on the first of this month. Wiltshire and Spencer-Dempsey grabbed two each with Courlander and Jessica Stickley also on target.

Off the back of the latest run of games, Osborne’s side are fourth with 12 points from their opening six league matches, six points off the league summit.

Will Blithing’s Development Team continue to set a blistering pace at the top of Division Two North after another 23 goals in their last three matches.

That run began with a 6-1 County Cup win over Enfield Town Thirds. Shannon Read struck a hat-trick with a brace for Jasmine Williamson and Kasey Clifford completing the scoring. The following week brought a third double-figure win of the campaign after an 11-0 home victory over Alexandra Park. Read netted four of those with another Williamson brace taking her into double figures for the season.

November’s only action saw another six goals scored in victory over Tower Hamlets Women Reserves on Hackney Marshes. Ruby Sumpter got two of those with Read, Williamson, Clifford, and Tiara Allidina completing the scoring. With six wins from seven, Brentford Women sit top of the table having scored an incredible 51 goals.

On the individual front, Brentford players currently top the scoring charts in both divisions. Spencer-Dempsey has struck nine in as many games in the Premier Division while Read (17) and Williamson (13) are clear at the top of the scoring charts in Division Two North.
