Sam Sodje (1979); 100 appearances, 14 goals

A Martin Allen signing plucked from non-league Margate, Sam missed the first six matches of the 2004/05 season as he served out a previous suspension. However, he quickly made up for lost time and became an instant fans favourite with his style of play and goal celebrations. He played 50 times as we reached the Play-Off Semi-Final and the FA Cup Fifth Round. His eight goals made him our third top scorer over the campaign with his equaliser away at Southampton forcing a Last 16 replay against the Premier League side.

Alongside Michael Turner, Sodje again reached a half-century of appearances during the 2005/06 campaign. He got on the scoresheet six times as we matched the previous season’s efforts in league and Cup. He missed the Play-Off Semi-Final First Leg against Swansea City due to suspension but returned for the Second Leg at Griffin Park which turned out to be his final game for The Bees.
