Following yesterday's stunning comeback against Fulham in the Semi-Final, Sam Jacques takes on Swansea City's Gareth Richards in the final of the FM20 EFL Cup this afternoon.
The match will kick-off at 3pm and be shown live on twitch.tv/footballmanager
Swansea's passage through to the final was no less dramatic than Brentford's on an incredible Semi-Final Saturday. The Swans took an early lead against Joe Lolley's Nottingham Forest through Rhian Brewster but then had Bersant Celina dismissed for a two-footed lunge before the half-hour. Forest took advantage straight away as Tobias Figueiredo slammed home a loose ball inside the box. Try as they might to make their man advantage count, Forest couldn't find a second and were then hit in second-half injury-time by a Joe Rodon header.
That came on the back of an incredible seven-goal thriller in the Quarter-Final against Birmingham City. The Swans took the lead twice, trailed 3-2 and then required a 94th minute howitzer from Player of the Match George Byers to progress. In the earlier rounds they kept three successive clean sheets in victories over Wigan Athletic, Exeter City, and Derby County.
OUR STORY SO FAR
After a First Round bye, Sam needed penalties to see off Shrewsbury Town in Round Two. It finished 2-2 after 120 minutes with David Raya saving twice from the spot as we progressed 3-1 in the shootout. The Last 16 threw up an all-West London affair as we hosted Queens Park Rangers. Christian Norgaard and Said Benrahma netted early as we took control. QPR pulled one back on the half-hour from the penalty spot but a late spot kick of our own, converted by Emiliano Marcondes, ensured our progress to the Last Eight. There Sam produced his performance of the tournament so far in dispatching Preston North End 3-0.
Bees fan Sam won the fans' vote to be our manager after impressing supporters with his extensive CV on the latest version of the game and he hasn't disappointed so far. Currently a student at Bournemouth University, Sam has led Brentford to four Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, a Club World Cup, and nine other major trophies during a six-year stint in West London.
