To mark International Women’s Day, one of Brentford’s best-known fans took part as we continued our Farewell Griffin Park countdown. At every home league match in 2019/20 we are counting down to the final game at Griffin Park. This will include using a special display which will be updated at each remaining league match. The Farewell Griffin Park countdown was changed to five on Saturday when we beat Sheffield Wednesday 5-0 by TV, radio and podcast presenter – and staunch Brentford fan – Natalie Sawyer.

Natalie, a Brentford FC Community Sports Trust Ambassador is a presenter on TalkSPORT and also hosts The Game podcast, created by The Times newspaper. As well as regularly dropping mentions of Brentford FC on both channels, she also attends almost all matches at Griffin Park and has presented the Club’s Player of the Year Awards in recent years. She was a presenter on Sky Sports News for more than a decade and often fronted the channel’s Transfer Deadline Day coverage.

Natalie has also been involved in the Club’s diversity and inclusion work. She presented a Women in Football event for us last year as we gathered opinions on how to increase the number of female fans at Brentford FC and make the Club as welcoming and inclusive as possible. Natalie was also at Chase Bridge Primary School on International Women’s Day in 2018 to showcase the work done in the community to help girls in to sport.

Brentford’s game against Wednesday on Saturday was the nearest to International Women’s Day – 9 March. Natalie attended with her son Sawyer and counted us down to five to go at Griffin Park. Last week, the Club showcased the number of women working for The Bees – more can be seen here.
