Following tonight’s statement from the EFL, we have been informed the Sky Bet Championship is set to continue as normal and Brentford FC will be continuing to take all precautions possible to protect players and staff given the ongoing concerns posed by Covid-19 (aka the Coronavirus). The EFL have announced this evening, in light of today’s announcement by the Government and guidance from the relevant authorities that there is no medical rationale to close or cancel sporting events at this time, matches will continue to take place, including our game at Fulham tomorrow night. The full EFL statement can be seen here.
No members of Brentford FC on-field or off-field staff are currently in self-isolation or suffering any symptoms of Covid-19. The Club is being regularly briefed by the EFL and other stakeholders and we have planned for matches to continue. However, in order to ensure the health of our players and football staff, there will continue to be alterations to our usual routine.
The Club’s Training Ground, in Osterley, remains closed to all non-essential visitors. Brentford FC will continue to meet its media obligations under the EFL contracts but will be reducing player and staff interaction unless strictly necessary. We will resume a full media service as soon as possible.
We would also like to remind fans ahead of three games coming up in eight days – away to Fulham and Reading and at home to West Bromwich Albion – that players will, unfortunately, not be able to shake hands, sign autographs or pose for pictures with supporters. Brentford B also have two games planned next week – against Wealdstone and Erith Town – and will be following the same protocol. Player visits and appearances have also been cancelled, or will be subject to change, until further notice.
The Club will, in all other areas, be continuing as normal until contrary advice is received from the EFL or Government. Supporters are asked to take all measures they can to protect themselves and others. Supporters with Covid-19 symptoms should self-isolate and if anyone feels unwell at any game, stewards will be able to help. The latest advice from the NHS on Covid-19 can be seen at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/. We thank all fans in advance for their help and understanding in this matter.
