A long-term historical link that has developed in to a current partnership was celebrated as we continued our Farewell Griffin Park countdown last month. At every home league match in 2019/20 we are counting down to the final game at Griffin Park. This will include using a special display which will be updated at each remaining league match. The Farewell Griffin Park countdown was changed to six when we drew with Blackburn Rovers by Alec Fleming, a Senior Project Manager for Asahi, who works at the Chiswick-based Fuller’s Griffin Brewery.

Alec is a long-term Season Ticket Holder and sits in the Braemar Road Stand. He got a bit closer to the action when The Bees faced Blackburn and was next to the pitch at half time of the 2-2 draw. And his involvement continued the link between Fuller, Smith and Turner and Brentford FC that is more than a century old.

Fuller’s provided an apple orchard to Brentford FC when the Club were looking for a new home and that became Griffin Park in 1904 – the name being a nod to Fuller’s Griffin Brewery. This season we have partnered with the company – whose historic Griffin Brewery is now owned by Asahi as part of its UK operation – for our Farewell Griffin Park season, presented by London Pride. It is a deal that closes the story of Brentford’s historic home in the way it started.
