Notable Matches

Wigan Athletic 3 Brentford 1 – Freight Rover Trophy Final, 1985

George Saville (1993); 44 appearances, 4 goals

A cultured young midfielder signed on loan from Chelsea, George was a key figure in our 2013/14 League One promotion-winning campaign. Uwe Rosler’s side endured a slow start to the season but, like George, picked up as the season went on. His first goal came in a 3-1 win at home to Colchester United, a win that began a run of 20 victories in 25 matches. George played 40 league matches as promotion was secured, with his most memorable performance coming away at Leyton Orient in a pivotal 1-0 win. Since then George has gone on to play nearly 200 Championship games for Wolverhampton Wanderers, Millwall, and currently Middlesbrough.
