Brentford were today announced as the winners of an award for the best programme in the Championship. The website ‘Premier Progs’ has issued a Merit Award to the Bees, recognising the consistently excellent programmes issued by the club during the 2019/20 season.
Current Editor Chris Deacon took over from Sam Marshall in September 2019, the pair have produced a combined 26 editions so far this campaign. Featured contributors this term have included Dan Long, Rob Jex, Greville Waterman, Nick Bruzon, Ben Burgess and Illustrator Dave Flanagan. Each programme this season has been designed and printed by club partners Curtis Sport.
Premier Progs Website editor James Richards commented: “Brentford have marked their last season playing at Griffin Park with a series of top-class programmes. Each issue has been stylishly produced, featuring some excellent retro articles that recount memorable matches and players from the club’s past.
We were also impressed by the amount of coverage of Brentford’s matchday opposition that appeared in each programme. Many programmes provide only basic essentials on their visitors, but Brentford’s issues have gone the extra mile in providing interesting content for both home and away fans.”
The Merit Awards issued by Premier Progs recognise excellence in programme production. Whilst the focus of Premier Progs is programmes issued for Premier League matches, the Merit Awards showcase great examples of other programmes. This includes programmes produced by clubs in the English lower divisions and Scotland, as well as special edition issues.
James Richards said “There are many fine programmes in the Championship, any number of which would not look out of place in the Premier League. However, the Brentford issue takes our Merit Award thanks to its range of readable content, its extensive opposition coverage, and classy presentation.”
Premier Progs launched in March 2018 and features information and reviews about current Premier League programmes, as well as maintaining a season-by-season record of past issues. The site currently goes back to the 1965/66 season but will, over time, by extended further into the past.
Once the reviews from each season are completed, the best programmes are given Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards in recognition of their efforts. This season's EPL winners were (in order Gold to Bronze) Norwich City, Sheffield United and AFC Bournemouth.
