Brentford FC can confirm that Mads Bidstrup has signed a pre-contract agreement and will join The Bees from RB Leipzig before the start of next season. The Dane is set to formally link up with Neil MacFarlane’s Brentford B on 1 August. The 19-year old has agreed a three-year deal and there is a Club option of a one-year extension.

The midfielder spent the early days of his career with FC Copenhagen before joining Leipzig’s youth setup at the age of 16. He represented the Under-17 side before progressing to the Under-19s. Prior to the curtailment of RB Leipzig’s Under-19 campaign due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the youngster featured in wins over youth sides from Hannover, Niendorfer TSV and Union Berlin in early March.

Mads has also featured in the UEFA Youth League, coming up against the likes of Zenit St Petersburg, Benfica and Olympique Lyon during the 2019/20 campaign. The teenager has won caps for Denmark at every age group from Under-16 to Under-19, playing 22 games for his country. The talented midfielder will add further strength to the Brentford B group as the side target a return to action in the coming months.

Discussing Mads’ arrival, Brentford B Head Coach Neil MacFarlane said: “We’re delighted to get the deal over the line. It’s been a work in progress and one that I hoped we’d get done. It’s taken a few more months than we’d anticipated but we’re absolutely delighted to bring someone of Mads’ calibre into the Club.

“He’s a top person, from meeting him you can see the drive within him, which is crucial for our Football Club. It’s a massive part of our culture in terms of the work ethic and the desire to improve. He has a will to win in abundance, a midfield player with a number of different elements to his game. We want to add to that and hopefully he can be another one that can progress into the First Team.”
