THE OPPOSITION

It's been a difficult start to 2020 for Grant McCann's Tigers both on and off the pitch.

On the pitch they head into tomorrow's game on the back of four straight defeats in all competitions and without a win on home soil since mid-December. That run of poor form has seen them exit the Emirates FA Cup, albeit following defeat to Chelsea, and slip to 13th in the Sky Bet Championship, eight points outside the top six.

Off the pitch, they have seen second top scorer Kamil Grosicki join West Bromwich Albion with talisman, and leading scorer, Jarrod Bowen looking likely to join him in leaving East Yorkshire on Deadline Day. In terms of incomings this month, Martin Samuelsen joined from West Ham United while Marcus Maddison is mooted to become a Tiger before the window shuts.

Should Bowen depart that would leave Tom Eaves (pictured above) as Hull's top scorer this season with four goals in the Sky Bet Championship.

THE MANAGER

Grant McCann enjoyed a 15-year career as a player, primarily in the lower leagues, before heading into coaching in 2015.

After failing to make the grade at West Ham United, McCann became Cheltenham Town's record signing when he joined in 2002. Over the next four years, the midfielder made 155 league appearances before moving to Barnsley and then Scunthorpe United. Following 100 appearances at Glanford Park, McCann moved to Peterborough United where he completed the rare feat of being promoted via a play-off three times – once each with three clubs at three Stadiums – with Cheltenham Town at the Millennium Stadium, with Scunthorpe United at Wembley and with Peterborough United at Old Trafford.

A brief spell with Linfield in his native Northern Ireland, for whom he earned 39 caps as a player, preceeded his retirement and move into coaching at Peterborough United. In May 2016, McCann was appointed Posh manager on a four-year contract. He was named League One Manager of the Month for August 2017 but was sacked in February 2018 after no wins in seven. Four months later McCann was announced as the new Doncaster Rovers manager. He led them to the play-offs on the final day of last season before losing to Charlton in the play-off semi final stages.

TEAM NEWS

Thomas Frank confirmed it is as you were regarding our injury issues with Sergi Canos, Marcus Forss, and Nikos Karelis definitely out while Pontus Jansson has missed our last three matches.

For Hull, the above-mentionned Grosicki has departed adding to Hull's selection issues. Josh Bowler is set to miss a number of months joining Callum Elder, Jordy de Wijs and Matthew Pennington, as well as long-term absentees Jon Toral and Kevin Stewart, on the physio's table.
