Match Preview: Brentford B v FC Seoul

A look ahead to the first match of Brentford B's stay in Portugal

19 January 2020

Brentford B play their first match in Portugal when they take on FC Seoul’s first team at their Penina Resort in a 3pm kick-off on Sunday.

The young Bees, who were in Bordeaux earlier in the week, have flown to the south of the country to play three fixtures during their week’s stay.

The first opponents on the agenda will be a tough FC Seoul side who have been in Portugal for a couple of weeks readying themselves for their season in South Korea which kicks off in a couple of months’ time after they have played in the Asian Champions League.

FC Seoul boast a strong team and recently held two German sides in Wolfsburg and Hamburg to 1-1 draws, therefore Neil MacFarlane’s side will be anticipating a tough test.

Looking ahead to the fixtures, Brentford B Head Coach Neil MacFarlane wants his side to respond when they take on FC Seoul. He said: “We’ve come out on the wrong side (v Bordeaux) but they’re the type of games that will help develop the players whether we win or lose. They were certainly pushed today and that will definitely be the case in Portugal against men’s teams so it’s up to us to respond.”

The Bees have brought with 20 players with them, including first teamers Dru Yearwood and Luka Racic with both players likely to feature in the first match in Portugal. Elsewhere it is the usual crop of Brentford B players with Fredrik Hammar and Japhet Sery Larsen back with the team after missing out on the trip to France earlier in the week. Simon Andersson looks set to join up with the team later in the week following international duty, meaning Nathan Shepperd could well start in goal again for the young Bees.

The match, which is open to spectators, is currently planned to be streamed on the club’s YouTube channel but confirmation of this will given on the day of the match. Nonetheless the club intends to give full coverage of the game across social media.
