Chris Kavanagh is one of the country's leading referees and has been on the Select Group 1 list since the start of the 2017/18 campaign. The Manchester-born ref started as a teenager in local football before moving into National League officiating. He joined the EFL list in 2014 and is now on the UEFA list.

Kavanagh has generally taken charge of Premier League games this season but has also been given Europa League and European Under-19 Championship fixtures. His high-profile appointments this season have included Arsenal v Manchester United and Liverpool's game against out visitors Leicesyer City. He also took charge of the first leg of Leicester's Carabao Cup Semi-Final against Aston Villa earlier this month.

This will be only the sixth time Kavanagh has taken charge of a Brentford game. His last Brentford appointment was the 1-1 draw with Burton Albion in 2017 and prior to that he was at Griffin Park for a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United on 14 January 2017. We have only won once when Kavanagh has been referee, a victory over Huddersfield Town in 2015.

Prior to the match between Tottenham Hotspur and Norwich City last night, Kavanagh is yet to show a red card this season in the 22 matches he has taken charge of. He has issued 80 yellow cards in those fixtures across the Premier League, Sky Bet Championship and a variety of cup competitions.
