Ellery Balcombe has returned from his loan spell in the Danish NordicBet Liga with Viborg FF due to injury.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper joined The Greens in September on a season-long loan deal and quickly made the number one shirt his own, winning the Man of the Match prize on his home debut against Vendsyssel FF. With Viborg leading the league for much of Ellery’s time in Denmark, the England Under-21 international didn’t miss a minute of VFF’s matches between September and early November, keeping two clean sheets and conceding just six goals during those seven games.

He was forced to sit out the final three games before the winter break following a late red card against HB Køge, with Viborg losing two of those to drop to third in the table. While in Denmark, Ellery was also twice included in Aidy Boothroyd’s England Under-21 squad as the Young Lions continue their European Championship Qualification campaign.
