Men in Richmond are being invited to sign up so a 12-week weight-loss programme in Teddington Sports Centre and Shene Fitness Centre. Richmond Council and Brentford FC Community Sports Trust have teamed up to help men aged between 30 and 60 who have a BMI 25+ to get fit and loose weight. The first 12-week programme, delivered last year, saw 20 residents collectively lose an average of half a stone.

Steve – a resident from Twickenham, who signed up to the 2019, weight-loss programme said: “After completing this programme, I feel a lot better being lighter and more agile, and I actually enjoy exercise now! The best part of the programme was the other participants and the coaches – everyone helped everyone else and the coaches had good tips on a better diet and how to exercise.”

Each weekly session will consist of a mixture that combines indoor group fitness sessions, healthy eating workshops and top tips for lifestyle changes. The weight-loss programme costs £5 a week and applications for the first 2020 programme are now open on the Council’s website and, will also consist of two separate sessions.

The first session starts on January 20, and will be held every Monday between 7:30pm and 9:30pm at Shene Fitness Centre. And, the second session will start on January 23, and will be held every Thursday between 7pm to 9pm at Teddington Sports Centre. Residents looking to get fit and healthy are also encouraged to sign up to Richmond Council’s Feel Good Fitness Membership which gives you access to over 200 classes, four pools and five gyms with tailored services and qualified instructors on hand to help with your fitness goals.

The trial programme was featured in the EFL Community Day of Action last year. Pictures from that event can be seen here and a video is available below.
