After taking his tally to ten for the season on New Year’s Day against Bristol City, Bryan Mbeumo has no plans on stopping any time soon. The 20-year-old opened the scoring against The Robins as The Bees went on to run out 4-0 winners at Ashton Gate and move up to third in the Sky Bet Championship.
“It is nice to get to ten goals already,” Bryan said after yesterday’s game. “I have set myself a target, but I’m keeping that to myself. I might let you know at the end of the season but right now I have to just keep on scoring. The Christmas period has been different because in France we have a break. However, we are well prepared physically and recovering really well from the games.”
Wednesday’s game was only the second time this term that all three of the Bees BMW triumvirate, Mbeumo, Said Benrahma, and Ollie Watkins, had found the net in the same game. Bryan admitted it was nice to see all three of them on target in a convincing win.
“It was a really pleasing victory,” said Bryan. “The early red card helped us but we played really well after that and got a good three points. You can definitely say that the BMW performed well today. It gives me a lot of pleasure that all three of us scored.”
Wednesday’s victory meant The Bees finished a tough Christmas schedule, which included trips to West Bromwich Albion and Millwall, plus a home game against Swansea City, with seven points. Bryan highlighted that 3-1 home win over The Swans, and in particular the fans’ reaction to it, as a standout moment from the run.
“Boxing Day was a really special atmosphere because you got the sense that the fans were really with us,” said Bryan. “Over the last few games the fans seem to have appreciated what we are doing. There is a real confidence in the group, but we have to go into each match with as much humility as possible. It is only by doing that, we will continue to put in the really good performances.”
