HEAD TO HEAD

THE OPPOSITION

Blackburn Rovers have launched a Play-Off run in 2020 despite seeing their squad decimated by injury over the past couple of months.

Under Tony Mowbray, Rovers didn't pull up any trees in the opening three months of the season and went into the November international break 18th in the table, with 18 points from 16 games. They returned from that break and reeled off four straight wins, which included their 1-0 win over us at Ewood Park, as part of an eight-game unbeaten run.

Much of that run, which moved them up to ninth at the mid-point of the campaign, was based on the form of Bradley Dack. However, he was ruled out for the season with a knee injury in late December, the first of a number of high-profile players to be forced onto the treatment table.

In the immediate aftermath of Dack's departure, Rovers embarked on a five-game winless run but 13 points from their last six games has lifted them to eighth, three points off the Play-Offs.

Dack's considerable shoes have been filled by Adam Armstrong (pictured above) in recent weeks, the striker contributing five goals and six assists in his last 14 outings.

THE MANAGER

Tomorrow marks two-years to the day since Tony Mowbray was appointed Head Coach of Blackburn Rovers. A distinguished defender during his playing days, Mowbray made 670 professional appearances, achieving back-to-back promotions as captain of his hometown club Middlesbrough in the late 1980s. His career also took in stays at Celtic and Ipswich Town before he was handed his first managerial job at Hibernian in 2004.

In October 2006, Mowbray was appointed Manager of West Bromwich Albion. He led The Baggies to the Championship title in his second season at The Hawthorns. Celtic came calling in June 2009, before Mowbray returned to former club Middlesbrough in October 2010. Mowbray left Boro in October 2013 and took charge of Coventry City from March 2015 to September 2016. Under his leadership, Blackburn secured an immediate return to the Championship following relegation in 2016/17.

TEAM NEWS

Thomas Frank has confirmed that Bryan Mbeumo will be back in the starting XI after he missed last Saturday's draw at Birmingham City. Mathias Jensen limped off early during that game while Pontus Jansson was absent due to injury. None of the quartet of Kamohelo Mokotjo, Sergi Canos, Nikos Karelis, or Marcus Forss will feature tomorrow.

Rovers' treatment room looks like it's getting slightly quieter with Sam Gallagher and Joe Rankin-Costello returning to training this week. Long-term absentees Corry Evans, Bradley Dack, Joe Rothwell, and Derrick Williams are not close to a return however.
