HEAD TO HEAD

THE OPPOSITION

Luton's first season in the second tier since 2007 has proved to be a tough one but Graeme Jones' men have plugged away and remain in touch with those above them as we enter the final quarter of the campaign.

Bar the opening weekend of the season, Luton have never been higher than 15th in the table and have spent all of 2020 in the bottom two after taking just seven points from 16 games between mid-October and mid-January. However, nine points from the last 18 available have dragged them to within six points of safety.

The Hatters have shipped more than two goals a game on average, with our 7-0 thumping in late December, one of 13 occasions this term they have conceded three or more in a game. At the other end, they have only failed to score twice in nine league games in 2020 with James Collins (10) (pictured above) and Harry Cornick (8) their leading scorers.

Their tally of nine league wins is only two less than Derby County, who sit 13th, but it's their 22 defeats, three more than anyone else in the division, which has really hurt them this campaign.

THE MANAGER

Graeme Jones began his playing career in the non-league before getting his break in the Football Leauge with Doncaster Rovers in 1993. After 30 goals in three seasons at Belle Vue, Jones headed across the Peak District to Wigan Athletic where he enjoyed a record-breaking first season. He netted 31 league goals, which remains a Latics' club-record to this day, as Wigan were promoted from the Fourth Tier. Jones spent two more years in Lancashire before moving on. The final seven years of his career took in six clubs with limited success ahead of retirement in 2006.

Until his appointment by The Hatters in May, Jones had held a number of high-profile assistants' jobs to Roberto Martinez with Swansea City, Wigan, Everton, and, most recently, the Belgium national side. In August 2018 it was announced that Jones would join newly-relegated West Bromwich Albion as assistant to Darren Moore, which resulted in him leaving his position with Belgium, after a two-year spell. It was also the first time that Jones had not coached alongside Martínez since the beginning of his coaching career in 2007

TEAM NEWS

Thomas Frank has confirmed that Mathias Jensen (hamstring) and Pontus Jansson (hip) will miss out tonight, joining long-term absentees Sergi Canos, Nikos Karelis, Kamohelo Mokotjo, Marcus Forss, and Ellery Balcombe in the treatment room.

Luton hope to have Izzy Brown, Kazenga LuaLua and captain Sonny Bradley back after all three missed their defeat at Charlton with minor knocks. Danny Hylton and Callum McManaman are once again set to start on the bench with Brendan Galloway (knee) and James Shea (finger) definitely out.
