Brentford’s second goal in the win at Hull City has been officially credited as a Reece Burke own goal. The Bees were 1-0 up when a corner was played short and Saïd Benrahma dribbled in to space, he delivered a cross that Ollie Watkins was able to meet at the far post. The header lacked power but bounced up awkwardly, Hull goalkeeper George Long fell over and central defender Burke misjudged his jump so he could only help it on its way in to the net.

After some confusion about who the goal should be awarded to, it was viewed by the EFL’s dubious goals committee. They decided that the goal should be credited to Burke. Watkins did get one later on in the 5-1 win that took him to 19 goals for the season, joint top of the scoring charts in the Sky Bet Championship with Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrović.

The credit for Hull’s goal in the game has, however, been changed. Ryan Tafazolli played a ball forward when Brentford had a 2-0 lead and it ran through towards David Raya. The Brentford goalkeeper failed to deal with the bobbling ball, and it bounced past him, having enough pace to roll over the line. The goal was initially given as a Raya own goal but has now been given to Tafazolli.

We were back in blue for our game at the KCOM Stadium. Our commemorative kit’s first outing against Millwall in October was one never to be forgotten, with three late goals giving us the three points, and this one followed suit.
