EFL Clubs have today reached an agreement in principle to amend the deadline of the Summer Transfer Window to the traditional closing date at the end of August. A process for formally adopting the change into EFL Regulations will now take place in due course. This will bring Championship clubs in line with the current position for League One and League Two.

The Sky Bet Championship Transfer Window has shut on the Thursday before the start of the Premier League season for the past two summers - 2018 and 2019. There was a change to the regulations for 2019 which saw League One and League Two clubs have until the end of August to make permanent or loan transfers. The EFL had the same regulations across all three divisions in 2018.

The change in 2018 came after the Premier League made a decision to shut their Transfer Window on the Thursday before the start of the top-flight season. After two years with these regulations, the Premier League will revert back to an end-of-August Transfer Deadline in 2020. The EFL has now agreed to follow suit.

The deadline for the 2020 Summer Transfer Window will be at 5pm on 1 September, as 31 August 2020 is a Bank Holiday.
