The side went ahead in the fourth minute through the on-loan Manchester United winger before they doubled their lead through Gilbert’s low finish. The industrious Adams then added a third of the afternoon late on.

Brentford B started sharply, and the first goal came in the fourth minute when the ball was switched to the right and Haygarth tricked into the box before curling a left-footed effort in off the far post to make it 1-0.

More good play would follow for the young Bees as just a few minutes later Valgeir Valgeirsson played a clever ball across goal but Gilbert was unable to stretch to get a clean contact as the opportunity went.

A couple of half chances fell for the home side with one attempt going just wide of Ellery Balcombe’s goal, and moments later one of the Trialists made a vital block following a powerful low effort from close range.

Another two opportunities would follow before the break as Haygarth’s powerful drive was well blocked before Valgeirsson saw his low effort edge just wide of goal.

The side kept up the standard after the break and created another opportunity when Adams was played through centrally, but credit to the keeper who was out quickly do deny the Brentford man. More chances came and went with headers for Adams and Crama at the far post, the Frenchman’s effort going closest as he forced a smart stop from the Charlton keeper.

Brentford B continued to grind down their opponent as well as offering little in terms of chances for Charlton with the likes of Ben Hockenhull marshalling the defence well.

The second goal would come when Gilbert received the ball on the edge of the box before he unleashed a low effort past the keeper to make it 2-0 and put the side in a commanding position.

Brentford B then had a shout for a penalty as Adams drew a challenge from the Athletic keeper, but despite the calls for the spot kick, the referee waved away the claims. The third would come when more good play in and around the box would see an effort fired at goal before Adams was on hand to turn it into the net and cap off another impressive win for the young Bees.
