Match Preview: Brentford B v QPR U23

Young Bees set for action tomorrow afternoon

16 December 2020

Brentford B welcome Queens Park Rangers Under-23 to Jersey Road on Thursday afternoon in a behind closed doors fixture.

The match, which kicks off at 12:30pm, will be the first time the sides have met since August last year when the young Bees picked up a 4-1 win away from home.

Neil MacFarlane’s side are on a good run of form of late having claimed wins in each of their last three matches. They claimed a 3-1 win over Watford Under-23 before battling to a 1-0 win at London Colney against a strong Arsenal youth side a week later. Their last result really saw the side impress as they picked up a well-deserved 3-0 victory over Charlton Athletic.

The match against Charlton saw Max Haygarth impress once again before he went on to make his First Team debut against Nottingham Forest, as Alex Gilbert also finished smartly before Joe Adams capped off a positive afternoon’s work.

The match falls as the first game of two in three days for the young Bees as Huddersfield B quickly follow on Saturday morning. QPR come into the game on the back of a positive run of form themselves as they picked up a 2-0 win over Bristol City in Harlington yesterday.

Armalindo Mema helped himself to two second half goals for the side as Bristol were also reduced to 10-men in the Professional Development League.

Recent weeks have also seen the R’s beat Swansea City’s youth side 3-1 with the goals coming from Stephen Duke-McKenna, Hamzad Kargo and Nathan Carlyle. Prior to that, the side had a goalless draw with Colchester United before falling to a 4-2 home defeat to Hull City.

Discussing the recent form for Brentford B, youngster Valgeir Valgeirsson said: “Things are going well and we’re happy with how we’re playing. I think we’ve won these games because of the hard work that we’ve put in during training.

“The work ethic from everyone is great, but we need to keep pushing each other and keep going.”

Unfortunately we will not be able to stream tomorrow’s match but we'll have a report, pictures and match reaction following the game.
