There was limited game time for our players out on loan at the weekend with Patrik Gunnarsson the only player to play from the start as Viborg FF remained top of the Danish First Division with a 1-1 draw with Fremad Amager.
It looked like the side were helping themselves to yet another three points in the Danish First Division when Sebastian Grønning netted just seven minutes from time, but they were dealt a blow when the home side levelled late in injury time from the penalty spot to make it 1-1. Viborg are still top of the league, five points clear of Esjberg who have a game in hand on Patrik’s side.
Elsewhere in Europe, Halil Dervişoğlu was an unused substitute as FC Twente pulled off an impressive 2-1 win away from home against Ajax in the Eredivisie. Queensy Menig got both of the goals on the day, netting in the 22nd minute of the game before a Dusan Tadic penalty in the second period levelled things. The winner came from the FC Twente man six minutes from time to put them fifth in the table with 21 points from 11 games.
Joel Valencia was not involved in Legia Warsaw’s 2-0 win over Lechia Gdansk as they now sit top of the Ekstraklasa. Julian Jeanvier was also not involved for Kasımpaşa S.K. in their 3-0 loss to Besiktas following injury.
On English soil, Saïd Benrahma came on as a substitute in the 75th minute against Manchester United as The Hammers were stunned by a comeback from the Red Devils with goals from Paul Pogba, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford giving the away side the win, despite an early opener from Tomáš Souček.
In Sky Bet League One, none of our players tasted action at the weekend with Jan Žambůrek not involved in Shrewsbury Town’s 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic. Town has been trailing going into the final moments but a late penalty from Ollie Norburn ensured a 1-1 draw. Luka Racic was also absent from Northampton’s 2-0 defeat to Doncaster Rovers as The Cobblers were reduced to 10-men just 18 minutes into the game. They’re now 16th in Sky Bet League One.
Jaakko Oksanen continues to recover from an injury so he missed AFC Wimbledon’s 4-2 home defeat to Bristol Rovers on Saturday. The Dons are now 14th in English Football’s third tier.
In Sky Bet League Two, Arthur Read played the final 10 minutes as a substitute for Stevenage in their 0-0 draw with Southend United- a result which actually took them out of the relegation places.
