The young Bees were two goals down in the first half before Aaron Pressley struck just before the break in excellent fashion. Gustav Mogensen levelled things shortly after the break, but Hanwell managed another goal midway through the second period to claim the win.

The Brentford B line-up featured lots of trialists as Neil MacFarlane and his coaches look to mould a new squad going into the 2020/21 season. There were starts for more experienced B Team players in Aubrel Koutsimouka, Kane O’Connor, Arthur Read, Gustav Mogensen and Aaron Pressley, whilst there were also debuts from the start for new recruits Wraynel Hercules and Fin Stevens.

It was the home side that started the brighter as they took the game to Brentford and threatened in behind with pace. Early warning signs of the threat on the break then saw to Hanwell taking the lead as Town striker, Evans Lambooh, burst forward before finishing coolly past the Bees keeper.

After falling behind, Brentford began to gain more of a foothold in the game with one of the Brentford trialists having an effort from distance saved before a Koutsimouka ball into the left channel found Mogensen, whose effort edged just wide.

But despite seeing more of the ball, it would be the home side who would double their lead when a cross into the box was headed goalwards before another touch from a Hanwell player outwitted the Brentford keeper to end up in the back of the net.

As the half wore on, more chances fell for Brentford and another trialist combined well with Mogensen before composing himself and seeing his low effort turned around the post.

But Brentford would get themselves on the scoresheet just before the break in fantastic fashion. As Pressley combined well with Mogensen, he made a run into the left-hand side of the box before controlling well and chipping the Town keeper to make it 2-1.

The second half would be just a few minutes old when The Bees managed to draw level. After good build-up play in the centre, a wonderful through ball into the path of Mogensen saw the young Dane finish expertly to pick up where he left off from last season.

As the game crept towards the hour mark, both sides made a series of changes with a further six trialists introduced for Brentford and the game began to struggle for rhythm.

Joe Adams would have a chance for the young Bees shortly after coming on when he teased a defender before shifting the ball and shooting towards goal and a deflection took the ball onto the keeper’s left-hand post as Brentford were prevented from getting a third.

Hanwell’s goal then came when a ball was recycled and put back into the area before a Hanwell striker did well to slot home first time from around 12-yards out to make it 3-2. A late chance would fall to a Brentford trialist, but it wasn’t to be as they fell to a loss in their first match since 10 March. Brentford B now set their sights on a London Senior Cup Semi-Final with Erith Town on Wednesday 26 March at Griffin Park.
