Jaakko named in Finland Under-21 squad

On loan midfield player heading on international duty

Jaakko Oksanen has been named in the Finland Under-21 squad for two upcoming games. The 19-year-old Brentford B midfield player is currently on loan with AFC Wimbledon and is scheduled to spend the 2020/21 campaign with the Sky Bet League One side. But before the season starts, he is heading away on international duty.

Finland are attempting to qualify for the 2021 European Under-21 Championships. The tournament will be played in Hungary and Slovenia next year and will be split across March, for the group stage, and then May and June for the final stages. They have seven points from their first five games and have two vital home matches coming up,

Finland will play Romania, who are three points and a place better off in Qualification Group Eight, on Friday, 4 September, before they play Ukraine next Tuesday, 8 September. A 22-man squad has been named for the matches. They will meet up in Finland today to prepare for the fixtures.

Jaakko has been involved with the Finland international teams since he was 15 and has won caps at every level from Under-16 upwards. He has played eight times for the Under-21 side and first appeared at that level when aged 18. He has played 35 times for his country in total.
