A look back at this day in Brentford history

18 April 2020

Notable Matches

Brentford 3 Accrington 0 – Sky Bet League Two, 2009

Brentford 1 Preston 0 – Sky Bet League One, 2014

Birthdays

Jerrome Sobers (1986); 1 appearance, 1 goal

A late season loan signing from Ipswich Town, Sobers scored the opener on the final day of the 2004/05 season as a youthful Brentford side beat Hull City 2-1 at Griffin Park.

Wojciech Szczesny (1990); 28 appearances, 0 goals

Arsenal goalkeeper Szczesny arrived at Griffin Park in November 2009 with Andy Scott’s side in the lower reaches of the League One table. His impact was immediate. Szczesny conceded just seven goals in his first 11 outings, pulling off a string of remarkable saves along the way. He would end the season with ten clean sheets to his name, including one at Bristol Rovers which was a highlights reel of its own, as we cemented our place in League One. After his performances at Griffin Park, it was no surprise to see Wojciech go on to be first choice for Arsenal, Roma, and currently Juventus, as well as his nation, Poland.
