Four Brentford B players were involved in qualification games for the UEFA European Under-21 Championship 2021 last night. The road to the finals started last week and there was Brentford involvement across Europe last night. The results were mixed but there was game time for one of Brentford’s promising youngsters.
Jaakko Oksanen played the last 25 minutes as Finland drew with Northern Ireland. He started as a substitute as Finland took an early lead, but Northern Ireland equalised before the break. Jaakko came on as Finland chased the win, but they had to settle for a point at home.
In the same group Mads Roerslev Rasmussen was an unused substitute as Denmark beat Romania. Denmark scored early in both halves and held on to win 2-1 after Romania pulled a goal back. Finland currently top Group Eight with Denmark in third. The teams meet in October. The group winners will qualify for the tournament along with the best second-placed team in nine groups. Eight other runners-up will take part in Play-Off games.
Meanwhile, Cole Dasilva and Nick Tsaroulla were unused substitutes as their teams lost last night. Cole and Wales were beaten 5-1 by Germany in Group Nine while Cyprus, with Nick on the bench, took an early lead away to Netherlands. But the home side hit back to score five without reply. Wales sit third in Group Nine having won one game and lost one with Cyprus fifth in Group Seven.
