Two first half goals from Gustav Mogenson and one from Christian Tue Jensen took the game away from the hosts as the Bees dominated the first period.

A much more even second half saw Aberdeen have chances themselves but could only pull one goal back through Luc Bollan.

It took Neil MacFarlane’s side just four minutes to get on the scoresheet; Jaden Brissett receiving the ball before cutting inside and combing excellently with Mogenson as he finished calmly with his right foot.

The Bees continued to dominate the early stages with Tue Jensen often found centrally as he looked to drive at the Aberdeen back line, and Japhet Larsen also had a header at goal well blocked all inside 10 minutes.

More pressure would follow for the away side as their corner count increased. Once again Larsen was in the thick of the action, but his header edged over Sam Jackson’s goal.

Mogenson would get his second of the afternoon on 19 minutes. Brissett again caused havoc before he cleverly played in Mads Roerslev down the right, and his low ball was fired home by the Danish striker.

Tue Jensen then netted Brentford’s third when the Bees’ trialist sent a fierce effort goalwards from the edge of the box. The Aberdeen keeper could only push the ball into the path of the forward, who slid home to make it 3-0 on 35 minutes.

Aberdeen then threatened the Brentford goal on 39 minutes when the away side were dispossessed before an attempt deflected off Larsen and hit the chest of Nathan Shepperd before going wide.

Ethan Ross went close for the home side with a free-kick on the edge of the Brentford box, but his effort edged just wide of Shepperd’s left-hand post as Aberdeen searched for a way back into the match, but Brentford took a commanding three-goal advantage into the break.

Aberdeen made it a much more competitive affair in the second period as they limited the Bees to less chances and looked to close the space for the Brentford attacking players.

Bruce Anderson had a glorious chance to pull a goal back for the Scottish side when a fortunate break fell to the striker before he shifted the ball and fired an effort just wide of goal just after the hour mark.

Aberdeen got themselves on the scoresheet on 72 minutes when a free-kick from the right was whipped in to the far post and Bollan was on hand to head an effort goalwards as the ball came off the bar and in.

Chances became few and far between for the Bees, but they did have the ball in the net through Brissett when they countered well, and despite the youngster finishing confidently, it was pulled back for offside.

Aberdeen almost pulled another back in the dying minutes when David Bangana rose at the far post to head against the cross bar, but was unable to find the net as the Bees claimed the 3-1 win.
