The 24-year-old was a key component of the Gliwice side that picked up their first ever top flight title in May after winning six of their final seven league games. Joel contributed six goals in 33 league games last term, registering just as many assists.

It was those performances, across a variety of midfield roles, which were recognised with a place in the Best XI of the Lotto Ekstraklasa and the coveted Player of the Season award, as chosen by his fellow players. Joel also received the most votes of any midfielder selected in the Best XI nomination, which can be seen below.

The awards were announced at the Piłkarze Wybierają, the annual Player's choice awards organized every year by the PZP, held in July. The commemorative plaques were then delivered to Joel at Brentford's Jersey Road Training Ground last week, shortly before our Sky Bet Championship game against Derby County during which the Ecuadorian international made his league debut.
