A difficult first half an hour saw the home side put themselves into a three-goal lead through Olli Shaw and Josh Campbell. But The Bees pulled a goal back when Jaden Brissett found the net from the penalty spot, before Gustav Mogenson netted his third in two games with a powerful effort in the second half.

Brentford B head coach Neil Macfarlane made three changes to the side that started the 3-1 win over Aberdeen Reserves on Sunday, as Jan Zamburek and Dru Yearwood were given minutes, alongside Kane O’Connor who came into the centre of defence.

It was the worst possible start for the away side as Hibs were awarded a penalty inside five minutes when Nathan Shepperd brought down Josh Campbell in the Brentford box, Shaw converting low into the bottom left corner.

Despite beginning to see more of the ball in the opening 20 minutes, Brentford were unable to create too many clear-cut chances with Christian Tue Jensen’s effort from distance edging just wide. Shaw got his second on 18 minutes when he was found centrally following a Hibs corner before he headed first time into the top right corner to strengthen the home side’s advantage.

It would get worse for Brentford just six minutes later when they fell three behind as Fraser Murray did well down the left before pulling the ball back into the path of Campbell, who fired home low to make it 3-0.

Chances then became few and far between, but The Bees managed to gain some sort of foothold in the game with Tue Jensen’s free-kick edging just past the post later in the half.

Neil MacFarlane’s side managed to get a goal back on the cusp of half-time when Joe Newell fouled Nick Tsaroulla, the referee awarding the second penalty of the afternoon; Brissett on hand to convert calmly to make it 3-1.

It was Brentford who would start the second period the brighter as they began to create more chances with some incisive passing.

They pulled another goal back when they broke down the right before Mads Roerslev crossed low for Mogensen to fire home into the top corner.

Brentford continued to dominate for large spells in the second period as they looked to level. They created another chance when Tue Jensen’s free kick found Mads Bech Sorensen, but despite his glancing header going towards goal, Hibs managed to clear as the Bees were unable to find that all-important third goal to draw level.
