In Denmark, Emiliano Marcondes set up Alexander Scholz for the winning goal to leave FC Midtjylland seven points clear at the top of the Danish Superliga. Hosts Ebsjerg took a 56th minute lead through Yuriy Yakovenko’s low drive but FCM levelled 11 minutes later, Mikael Anderson stealing in at the back post to volley home. The winner came inside the final 20 minutes as Emiliano’s deep corner was fired home by Scholz through a crowd of bodies. The appearance on Friday was Emiliano’s sixth in the league since returning to Denmark, with the 24-year-old registering one goal and two assists in those half dozen matches.

A division lower there’s also Brentford representation in top spot as Ellery Balcombe and Viborg FF beat Nykøbing FC 2-1 to register a fourth straight NordicBet Liga success. VFF struck twice inside the opening half-hour at the CM Arena but had to weather a late storm as Sebastian Koch pulled one back for the hosts midway through the second period. Viborg’s victory has seen them open up a two-point lead at the top of the table ahead of Saturday’s home game against struggling HB Køge.

Meanwhile in Holland, Halil Dervişoğlu played the full 90 minutes as Sparta Rotterdam were beaten 2-1 at home by FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie on Sunday. The visitors struck twice from the spot in the first-half, either side of a Ragnar Ache goal for Sparta, to drop Halil and his teammates to tenth in the table. League action takes a backseat this midweek as Sparta host Keuken Kampioen Divisie side FC Volendam in the Dutch Cup on Wednesday.

In England, Justin Shaibu was a late substitute for Boreham Wood as they were beaten 2-0 at home by managerless AFC Fylde. Andy Taylor opened the scoring after 19th minutes with an injury-time Danny Bradley effort wrapping up the points. Wood drop to 14th following defeat but are just four points off the Play-Offs with Aldershot Town making the trip to Meadow Park tomorrow night.

There was also no debut for Jaden Brissett on Saturday, the 18-year-old watching on from the bench as new side Maidenhead United netted a 93rd minute winner at home to Solihull Moor in the National League.
