Pair of midweek defeats for loan players

Tuesday's action in the EFL

24 October 2019

Both of our players away from Griffin Park suffered defeats this midweek as their respective clubs continue to be embroiled in relegation battles.

In Sky Bet League One, AFC Wimbledon were beaten 1-0 at Burton Albion with Marcus Forss playing the full 90 minutes. After three straight league wins, The Dons travelled to The Pirelli Stadium full of confidence but fell behind just past the half hour mark as David Templeton poked home. Chances were at a premium for AFC after the break as they stay in the final relegation place following the defeat. Glyn Hodges was handed the reins full time on Wednesday following Wally Downes' departure as Lincoln City head to Kingsmeadow on Saturday.

In Sky Bet League Two, Canice Carroll wasn’t involved in Carlisle United’s matchday squad for their defeat at home to Northampton Town. Second-half goals from Scott Pollock and Sam Hoskins earned The Cobblers a 2-0 win as Carlisle's slump continued with a fourth straight league defeat. The Cumbrians are now 21st in the table, five points above the drop zone, with a trip to East London and Leyton Orient up this weekend.

The weekend action for our other loanees begins tonight with Ellery Balcombe and Viborg FF heading to Naestved in the NordicBet Liga. On Friday night, Emiliano Marcondes’ FCM face a Superliga trip to Ebsjerg.

Saturday’s action sees Justin Shaibu and Boreham Wood host AFC Fylde in the National League while Arbroath visit Firhill, home of Reece Cole’s Partick Thistle, in the Scottish Championship. The weekend finishes in Holland with Halil Dervişoğlu and Sparta Rotterdam's Eredivisie clash with FC Utrecht on Sunday.
