Jan Žambůrek has been named in the Czech Republic Under-19 squad as they get their European Under-19 Championship qualifying campaign off and running in the coming days. The Czechs begin with the visit of San Marino on Wednesday, 9 October, with Azerbaijan the opponents a few days later on Saturday 12 October. Both of those fixtures will be played at home, before Luboš Kozel’s young squad travel north to Norway on Tuesday 15 October.
Jan – who was promoted to Thomas Frank’s first team squad at the end of August – has been capped at every age group from Under-15 to Under-19, with his first two appearances at this level having come during friendlies with Belgium and Switzerland earlier this month.
In February, the 18-year-old became the first player born in the 2000s to appear in a competitive Brentford match when he made his debut against Hull City at Griffin Park. This term’s opener against Birmingham City saw Jan make his second professional appearance with his first competitive start coming against Cambridge United in the Carabao Cup.
