The goals came from two Jaden Brissett strikes as he continued his fine form in front of goal, and Gabriel Osho’s own goal as Brentford B claimed the victory in the friendly under the lights.

Discussing his side’s performance, Neil highlighted a number of positives from the display. He explained: “First and foremost, it’s a pleasing win. We started the match on the front foot for the first 20 minutes or so and we were catching out their organisation with a high press.

“We fell out a little bit in the middle part of the first half and at the start of the second half. We finished so strongly, which is really pleasing in terms of their fitness and the quality of the high press once we’d won the ball, to make the final pass in the final moment and then we had some good finishes. We came strong at the end and it was a deserved win.”

Having netted eight times in 16 matches, Jaden continued his excellent work in front of goal as he found the net with a powerful effort on the cusp of half-time before netting his second with a close-range finish as The Bees won the ball high upfield.

On Jaden’s recent form, Neil said: “Like he (Jaden) says, his stats don’t lie at the moment! He’s assisting and he’s scoring and when you play in a front three that’s what you have to do, so I’m pleased for him. He works hard every single day, as the whole group do, and to pop up with another two goals tonight can only boost his confidence again.”

One of the major highlights of the match for The Bees was the energy and work rate of the whole team that often managed to win back possession high upfield, and that’s a feature that the head coach was left impressed with.

“I think It worked all night (the press) and the way we went about it, and we showed them before the game how they (Reading) like to build up the play from their goalkeeper and a number of times we caught them,” said Neil. “In the first half when we caught them, we weren’t able to make the final pass at the particular moment to get in and score more. But, we certainly did it towards the end and we could have got a few more.”

With praise given to the attacking players, Neil was also quick to credit the defensive performance of the players as they reduced Reading to very little in front of goal.

He continued: “I don’t think we gave up much on the night, we obviously got caught with one ball over the top in the second half, but I was really pleased with how we went about defending as a team, and I thought the way we pushed our lines and got the team really compact was one of the reasons we gave up very few chances.”

With the match staged at Griffin Park, Neil is keen for Brentford B to have more encounters at the stadium as the players continue their development.

He said: “It’s fantastic, we want more of that. I also said to them that we can’t waste these nights, we had a similar match against West Ham a number of months ago and it was a similar tempo game with that intensity, and I thought that was the case tonight, and credit to Reading as well. It’s pleasing to come out on top.”

The fixtures come thick and fast for Brentford B as they now turn their attentions to Hanwell Town in the Middlesex Senior Cup on Saturday afternoon. With a tough game expected, Neil is hopeful that as many Bees fans as possible will head down to support the team.

He explained: “It’s going to be another tough game for the B Team group, we’ve had a cup tie already at Beckenham as well, in which we came out on top, and hopefully we can do the same again on Saturday.

“They come thick and fast between now and Christmas, but as I’ve always said, that’s what players want to do and before the match I said I want them to play the way they train, and they certainly did that.

“Obviously, the first team play on Monday, and we’re obviously over the moon after the last two results which have been absolutely fantastic and, hopefully, we’ll get another win at QPR. For the supporters it’s another opportunity to come and watch us on Saturday and hopefully we’ll get another win.”
