First up was a home tie against Woking Reserves in the Sue Sharples Cup. Brentford had a strong team out with a full subs bench eager to play their part, and on a sunny Bedfont pitch The Bees started well, creating chances throughout the 90 minutes. They were dominating play and forced the visiting goalkeeper into several fine saves, before Shannon Read curled her shot high into the net from the angle of the 18 yard box, taking her tally to ten goals in all competitions this term.

The second-half mirrored the first with Brentford on the front foot playing some good passing football and precise through balls. The second goal came from a spectacular long-range free kick from Kacey Clifford, making it five in nine games for her. Woking tried hard to get back in the game but The Bees stood firm to register the win and clean sheet which sent them through to the next round.

Last Sunday was another home match with Balham Panthers the visitors to Bedfont Sports in The Capital Women’s Cup. Brentford scored an early goal against their higher-division opponents through a classy Jasmine Williamson finish. Balham came back quickly to even up the score at half time.

The second half saw much the same with The Bees working hard all over the pitch. This eventually paid off when the referee awarded a penalty for handball; Shannon Read making sure with a well taken spot kick. The visitors created plenty of chances to get back into the game but for the heroics of Mia Heljeberg in the Brentford goal, the outcome would have been much different.

This Sunday sees the First-Team back in action away at Clapton Community WFC, and the Development Team hosting New London Lionesses Development at Bedfont Sports in the next stage of the Sue Sharples Cup.
