There were a pair of midweek defeats for two of our players away from Griffin Park on Tuesday night.
Marcus Forss wasn’t in the squad as AFC Wimbledon lost their Emirates FA Cup First Round replay on the road at Doncaster Rovers. Both goals came after the break with James Coppinger and Rakish Bingham the men to get them. AFC return to Sky Bet League One action on Saturday with a home game against Gillingham.
Halil Dervişoğlu was in international action on Tuesday night as Turkey’s Under-21s suffered a 2-0 defeat away at Andorra in European Championship Qualifying. The striker started the game at the Estadi Nacional, earning his seventh cap, as Andorra took a seventh-minute lead through Ricard Fernandez Betriu. Halil was replaced with 17 minutes before Andorra made the game safe thanks to a late Jordi Aláez penalty. The Turks are bottom of Group C, which contains Ellery Balcombe’s England, with four points from six games. At Club level, Halil and Sparta Rotterdam host SBV Vitesse on Sunday.
Also returning to action after the international break this weekend will be Emiliano Marcondes as Danish Superliga leaders FC Midtjylland travel to OB on Monday. In the league below, Ellery Balcombe’s second-placed Viborg FF visit Vendsyssel FF.
In England, Canice Carroll and Carlisle United host Cambridge United in Sky Bet League Two while the National League action sees Justin Shaibu’s Boreham Wood make the long trip to Hartlepool as Jaden Brissett and Maidenhead United host Woking. In Scotland, Reece Cole and Partick Thistle welcome Penicuik Athletic to Firhill in Round Three of the Scottish Cup.
